December 3, 2011

The 2011 Dinner Dance was Saturday, December 3 at the Countryside Banquet Center.  It was an incredible evening... a real celebration of the community!

A Wonderful Celebration of the Imaly City Community

I would like to thank the community of Imlay City for making the Chamber’s annual Dinner Dance such a special evening.  The room was filled with citizens who care deeply for Imlay City and work hard every day to make our region a thriving community.

Congratulations to the 2011 Citizen of the Year, Walt Bargen!  I have had the honor of working with Walt during the Blueberry Festival and as a member of the Imlay City SEED Group.  Walt is the true definition of “Citizen”.

Again, I would like to say “Thank You” to our Organization of the Year, Frontier Communications, for the tremendous positive impact they have had to our community since their arrival in the summer of 2010.  Our Merit Award recipients, Steve Teets and Jeffrey Hart, are constantly showing their devotion to Imlay City with countless volunteer hours, charitable donations and their work on a variety of Chamber and DDA committees.

Without the help of the Promotions Committee, the night would not have been a success.  Thank you to Gwynn Hintz, Katy Turner, Amy Rottman, Erin Kaake, Dave Eckman, Kim Marrone, Angella Thompson and Kim Jorgensen for your hard work and creativity!

We had a variety of items at the silent auction that were donated by the generous merchants of Imlay City:  Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, Lapeer County Bank & Trust, Tri-County Bank, Country Smokehouse, Frontier Communications, Gem & Diamond Specialists, Lumberjack Shack, Linda’s Country Store, Days Inn, Super 8, Imlay City Lube, Len’s Party Store, Pinnacle Foods Group, Warnars Chiropractic Center, Subway, Pamida, Countryside Banquet Center, Sanilac Broadcasting Company- Dave Eckman, Trendsetters Salon, Focus Studio, Treasures and Gifts, Capac State Bank, Imlay City Hardware, Thimbleberry Gift Shop, Kelly’s Pet Salon, Churchill Insurance Agency and Clif Clendenan.

Our centerpieces were sponsored by Oesch and Sieting, P.C. C.P.A.s, Wayne O’Neal, Sarah Norat-Phillips, Tri-County Bank, Edward Jones Investments-Nick Dickinson, Liebler Agency, Talmer Bank & Trust, Imlay City Lions Club, R. A. Duthler Land Surveyor, Champion Bus, Sheridan Insurance, Todd’s Glass, Mirrors and More, Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, Fiducial, Pinnacle Foods Group, Trendsetters Salon, and the Tri-City Times.

The beautiful floral arrangements for our award recipients were created and sponsored by Imlay City Florist and Creations Floral.  The delicious pies were generously donated by Big Boy and Countryside Banquet Center was the perfect host.

The evening was a true community event that celebrated the people and businesses that make Imlay City a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Thank you,

Dana Dunlop

Executive Director of the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce

Christmas Dinner Dance

The 2010 Christmas Dinner Dance was held at Countryside Banquet Center on Saturday, December 4th. We had a great turnout and alot of fun. We rocked out with the band, "Wayward Wind".  They were a great hit.  Thanks to all who attended and donated their time and items to the silent auction. A big thank you to all that sponsored a centerpiece.

One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of the Citizen of the Year, Merit Award and Service Organization Award winners. We think this is a great time of year to recognize the people and organizations that do outstanding things to help the citizens and the community as a whole. Kevin Daley announced Bob Muir as our 2010 citizen of the Year.

Bob has been an active person in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and in the community.  He is always there to lending a helping hand when something needs to get done or a fundraising effort is underway.  It is because of his lifelong devotion to the community that we recognize him with this prestigious award.   I would like to thank him for devoting himself to Imlay City!

Yvonne Wilson was surprised when we announced she was the recipient of the Merit Award. As a retired school teacher Yvonne has donated much of her time to various organizations.  She is a chairperson for the Relay For Life, has worked at the schools with the HERO Program, served for many years on the Blueberry Committee, and Chamber of Commerce Board.  She has always been there to help the Chamber of Commerce when needed and is most deserving of this award.

This years Service Club Organization Award went to the Desert Angels. This organization began in 2001 and has continuously been packing their Miracle Boxes since it began.  These boxes are filled with items and letters to send to our troops overseas.  They have also expanded to offer support for the K-9s serving in the war and began making quilts for the wounded soldiers as well.  They are continuously looking for donations and help to pack the boxes and never slow down.  it is their spirit of never giving up and supporting our soldiers that makes them the recipients of this years award.  Congratulations to Louise Downs, Sandie Smith and Carol Carroll.  Thank you for all you do!

We greatly appreciate all of our local and corporate sponsors for their donations and contributions to the Dinner Dance: State Representative – Kevin Daley, Gem & Diamond Specialists, Liebler Agency Inc.,  Planck Contruction, Creations Floral, LLC,  Lapeer County Bank & Trust,  Day’s Inn – Imlay City, Country Smoke House,  Imlay City Curves,  Vlasic/Pinnacle Foods Group LLC,  Countryside Banquet Center,  Trendsetters Salon, Big Boy, Olive Garden, Tri City Times, Learning Depot, Tri-County Bank,  Woods N Water, Imlay City Ford, Page One Printing, Goodwill Industries, Smokers Palace, New Century Property, Inc., Imlay City DDA, Imlay City Cinemas, Thimbleberry Gift Shop, Desert Angels, Gumdrop Junction, Kitty's Resale, Bee Gee's Family Shoes, CC's Cybercafe, Tim Horton's, Amazing Grace Gifts, and The Pincushion.
