Christmas Dinner Dance

This years Christmas Dinner Dance was held at Countryside Banquet Center Saturday December 5th. We had a great turnout and alot of fun. Thanks to all who attended and donated their time and items to the silent auction. We had a theme this year of Hollywood Glam and the hall was aptly decorated.

One of the highlights of the evening is the announcement of the Citizen of the Year, Merit Award and Service Organization Award winners. We think this is a great time of year to recognize the people and organizations that do outstanding things to help the citizens and the community as a whole.

Kevin Daley announced Kim Jorgensen as our 2009 citizen of the Year. Kim works tirelessly to help this community prosper. She has spent over 29 years years devoting herself to Imlay City by volunteering and promoting the area. She has been a dedicated Chamber member since 1980 and continues to serve on the promotions committee. Kim is involved in the Imlay City Schools and has worked at the concession stands, coached cheerleading and now the dance team. She also finds the time to serve on the Four County Foundation Board & Blueberry Festival Committee. I would like to thank her for devoting herself to Imlay City!

Tom Hanson from Niche Line Builders was the recipient of the Merit Award. The Niche Line Builders are a dedicated group of engine builders who take great pride in building a world class American Muscle engine at the Ford Plant in Romeo, michigan. They also believe that giving back to the community is a responsibility. Not just a choice. They began small by selling coffee and donating the money to charity. It grew further and they started selling pop, candy bars, & t-shirts. They have no overhead and have helped to pay for food, clothing, gas money, chemo treatments, etc. for those less fortunate. You can find them online at http://www.nichelinebuilders.com.

Mayor Rodney Warner presented this years Service Club Organization Award to the Blueberry Committee. The award was accepted by Julie Salsido and Walter Bargen, co-chairs for the event. The whole committe volunteers their time to make this event happen every year. The event brings thousands of visitors to town each year. The Blueberry Festival is a long time tradition and is on it's 35th year this year.

Christmas Parade

This years parade was a huge success. Despite the cold weather many people came to town to partake in the festivities. Viewers enjoyed a great lineup of floats, organziations, decorated shopping carts, walkers passing out candy and of course Santa Claus. Bonnie Topham was kind enough to donate her sleigh to pull Santa in. After the parade the children had a chance to sit down with Santa at the Imlay City Historical Musem. McDonalds donated toys to give to the children.

I want to thank the following for their participation and donations to the Chamber Lights Parade: Imlay City Police Department, Imlay City American Legion Post 135, Imlay City Rotary, Girl Scout Troop # 11864, Girl Scout Troop # 13096, Cub Scout Pack #138, Imlay City High School Band, Extreme Cheer & Dance, DDA, Tri-County Bank, Climate Guard, Imlay City Ford, The Learning Depot, Michigan Business Products, CSB, Tri-City Times, Kitty’s Place, Benny & the Jet’s, Gumdrop Junction, American Tree, Novaks Supply & Equipment, US Census Bureau, Little Miss Blueberry – Layla Delecke, Bonnie Topham – Topham Farms, Imlay City Fire Department & Santa.
