Government
The home rule charter form of government is run
by a seven- member commission that elects one of its own as mayor.
Although there is virtually no crime rate in the county, area leaders
are prepared, funding a 10-member Police Department. The department
currently mans four patrol cars (all radio equipped), one DARE car,
nine walkie-talkie units and a bicycle patrol. The Lapeer County
Central Dispatch Center provides dispatch.
The Imlay City Fire Department consists of 30
volunteers and 26 firemen including a chief, assistant chief, captain
and lieutenant. The department is equipped with three pumpers, three
tankers, an 85-foot aerial tower, a trailer-mounted diesel electric
generator, rescue van and jaws of life units. The ISO fire rating
is 7; and those on duty answer to 911 dispatches.
