Thanks to Imlay City's status as Gateway to the Thumb, retail outlets have flocked to the available lots along M-53 to serve the citizens and travelers through this area. Department stores, pharmacies, grocery stores and plenty of upscale restaurants dot the landscape with their new, modern facades.

City administrators have set aside the town's main street to preserve its historic roots - here bench- lined sidewalks invite the bargain hunter to peek in windows for unique furniture, clothing and gift needs. (Few passers-by can resist the home-baked aromas floating from the town's bakery either! The hungrier drop in for some authentic Mexican food along this quaint strip as well.)
